President Bob Smith is pleased to announce the Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society has joined Rotary as part of its service to the community.

The VCDS has been granted corporate membership in the White Rock Rotary Club. One of many clubs throughout the region that have generously supported our mission to provide free transportation to cancer patients in several communities on the Lower Mainland and in the Fraser Valley.

President, Bob Smith.

Since February 2016 volunteers of our Society have responded to requests for assistance from patients in need of cancer treatments, entering into  2019, we are assisting patients with more than 800 appointments per month. The growth in requests for our services has been rapid and challenging.  It is given by caring people who see the Society’s request for support as a gift of service and time that neighbours give to one another.  All of the volunteers offer emotional support to patients and often have to be a good listener as patients struggle with the threat of a life-ending illness.  As a group, we are all touched by the health challenge of our patients particularly when they are tending to a young family and carrying the anxiety of their diagnosis.

George and Garth are accepting $5000 in Chevron Gas Certificates from the representative from Parkland Fuel Corporation, Shannon Urquhart, Community Affairs Lead. They are generously committing to another $5,000 in gas certificates this year to help alleviate the cost of gas for our volunteer drivers. Thank you for your support!

We are incredibly honoured and grateful to be part of this event. Thank you for the nomination and for allowing our story to be told. Also to the donor matching the funds you are also amazing!

Congratulations to our Spring Event winner, Cancer Driver Society. Not only will they walk away with $10,000 for their organization, but we also have a donor matching tonight’s funds to be split between all three charities #GiveADamn
