The Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit registered charitable organization providing complimentary transportation for Greater Vancouver and Fraser Valley residents battling cancer. We have 450 volunteer members and in 2024 we anticipate providing over 38,000 safe, timely and efficient rides to patients.
The Society is governed by a Board of up to 11 Directors that ideally include a gender balance, geographic distribution, inclusiveness, and diversity reflecting the communities we support. The Board uses a Management-Governance model – Directors have an assigned area of responsibility with duties and responsibilities that may be adjusted to reflect workload/personal balance and emerging priorities.
As an integral part of the Board team, Directors identify and develop relationships, build alliances and networks, and leverage resources in support of VCDS. Using their experience and expertise they lead, develop, and manage an operational portfolio. They support the Board’s responsibility to ask critical questions and assess information to support good governance, planning, and stewardship functions. As volunteers, Board members commit to Board-related activities, including preparation for and participation in Community Events, Board and Committee meetings in person or by ZOOM.
