Bob Cowin – Why I Drive

When Bob Cowin, a resident of Port Moody, joined the Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society in 2017, he thought it would be temporary. A friend encouraged him to help out for a few months — committing to just one day a week.

Eight years later, Bob is still driving. Why?

“I discovered I actually enjoyed meeting such a wide range of people from our community. They’re often just grateful for support and want to connect in a real, human way.”

Bob credits the experience — and VCDS — for showing him something truly meaningful.

“Despite their challenges, patients show so much resilience and individuality. Every journey is different.”

Though Bob describes himself as introverted, his quiet dedication and thoughtfulness have made a powerful impact. And while he’s quick to point to others — the dispatchers, board members, and behind-the-scenes volunteers — we want to take this moment to thank him.

We’re so glad he never got around to quitting.
