Meet one of our original volunteers — on the team since Day One of VCDS operations in February 2016.
For this dedicated North Shore dispatcher, volunteering was never a question — it was a calling.
“I’ve lost several family members to cancer. Like so many in BC, I’ve seen firsthand how hard this journey can be. I wanted to give back — and I want this organization to exist for as long as it’s needed.”
Over the years, Tina has matched cancer patients with drivers with one goal in mind: peace of mind.
“Many of the people I match with a driver don’t have family or friends nearby. Some would have to pay $80+ for a taxi, or take handyDART which could take hours. We help them focus on treatment — not transportation.”
From receiving flowers from a frequent rider to heartfelt thanks from those they help, each ride is a reminder of why VCDS matters.
Outside of volunteering, this superstar works full-time with ICBC, enjoys streaming Canucks and Blue Jays games, pitch-and-putt golf, and soon — training a new support puppy.
Tina’s favourite part of volunteering is connecting with fellow volunteers at VCDS picnics and AGMs — moments that celebrate the strength of our community.
“This work has taught me so much — especially compassion and communication. Watching the strength and courage of our patients? It’s nothing short of inspiring.”
Thank you for being with us from the start, Tina — and for giving so generously, week after week. Your impact is lasting.
