Bonnie Lo “Why I Drive!”
For the past three years, Bonnie has been a dedicated Volunteer Cancer Driver, helping patients in Vancouver and Richmond get to their life-saving treatments. Her belief that “volunteering has no boundaries” reflects the spirit she brings to every ride—an open heart and a willingness to support her community wherever she’s needed.
One of Bonnie’s most memorable experiences was driving a gentleman living with disabilities who was undergoing cancer treatment. Despite the challenges he faced, his positive energy and determination to keep fighting left a lasting impression.
“I realized how lucky I am.”
Encounters like these remind her of the incredible resilience of patients, and how important compassion and connection are during difficult times.
Patients often tell Bonnie how grateful they are for the Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society. Many express how much the service lightens their burden, both financially and emotionally. Knowing she can make such a difference is what fuels Bonnie’s commitment.
“Because I always love helping people, especially those who are sick and in need of extra support.”
When she’s not driving for VCDS, Bonnie continues to give back by volunteering with BC Children’s Hospital. She also enjoys travelling and finding new ways to connect with people from all walks of life.
Through her work with VCDS, Bonnie says she’s gained an even deeper appreciation for life.
“I am a lucky person in the world.”
Her three words to describe her volunteer journey? Loving is Sharing.
Thank you, Bonnie, for the compassion and dedication you bring to every ride.
