Bill Cox
Humbling. Thankful. Satisfying.
Bil Cox’s, resident of Pitt Meadows, journey with VCDS began in July 2021, inspired by a deeply personal loss. After his wife passed away from cancer in 2020, Bill felt a pull to give back — not just financially, but in a more hands-on, meaningful way.
“I had always donated to cancer causes, but when I saw a call for volunteer drivers, I knew this was something I could do — something that would honour my wife’s memory.”
Since that first ride, Bill has become a kind and steady presence for countless patients, offering more than just transportation — he brings calm, care, and connection.
“What stands out most is the courage I see in nearly every patient I meet. They’re navigating such difficult terrain, and still show so much strength.”
Patients constantly express their gratitude — not just for the ride, but for the relief. “So many tell me how just having this service takes one stress off their plate. That means a lot.”
Though he’s semi-retired, Bill keeps busy with hiking, skiing, travelling, and time with family — and of course, his rewarding role with VCDS. One drive in particular stands out: “We witnessed a car accident on Highway 1. No one was hurt, thankfully, but it was chaotic — dealing with police, helping the drivers, and making sure my patient still got to treatment. It worked out, but I won’t forget it.”
For Bill, volunteering is a way to walk beside others through a journey he knows all too well. “We’ve all been touched by cancer. Supporting people in this small way feels right.”
What has he gained from volunteering? “Gratitude. Perspective. A deep sense of connection.”
Bill, thank you for showing up with heart — and for reminding us that giving back can be one of life’s greatest honours.
