Meet Gary and Kelly, a husband-and-wife team from Penticton making a big impact behind the scenes at VCDS.

They don’t drive or dispatch—but their support keeps the wheels turning.

Gary calls donors to personally thank them. When there’s no number, he sends a handwritten card. With help from Kelly, he adds personal touches—like if a donor is also a patient—so every call is meaningful.

Kelly manages donation data, enters gifts into our system, and generates thank-you letters for higher-tier donors. She also handles monthly reports from CanadaHelps and coordinates mailings.

Their inspiration? A longtime friend and cancer survivor who volunteers with VCDS. That personal connection led them here.

One of Gary’s most memorable calls? A woman who had just been declared cancer-free that very day. She shared her story with joy—it’s a moment he won’t forget.

Outside VCDS, they enjoy gardening, cooking, travelling, and community involvement. Gary also volunteers at Penticton Regional Hospital and coaches high school rugby.

“We all know someone who’s faced cancer. This service is life-changing, and we’re proud to do our part.”

Thank you, Gary and Kelly for the care and commitment you bring to every task—quiet heroes making a big difference.
