Connie Rosales-  “Inspiring. Rewarding. Empowering.

Meet one of our compassionate volunteers, resident of Delta – joined VCDS in November 2023, bringing with her a heart full of purpose — and a story rooted in love, resilience, and hope.

“I first heard about VCDS in 2018, when my husband was undergoing chemo at BC Cancer in Surrey. We both said, ‘This is such a worthy cause — we should give back when the time is right.’”

Sadly, her husband passed away later that year. After time to grieve, a return to work, and living through the pandemic, she took early retirement from a 20+ year career at Pacific Blue Cross. In 2023, the time was finally right and she joined us on the road.

Since then, she’s met incredible patients who’ve changed her life too. “They’re going through so much, and yet they talk about gratitude, peace, and counting blessings. That kind of perspective is deeply moving.”

One moment that stays with her?
“I once drove a professor and poet. We talked about music, generations, immigration — even AI. At the end, he called me an angel. Weeks later, I drove him again… and he read me a poem he’d written about angels. I was in tears driving home.”
Patients often say the same thing: “VCDS gives me peace of mind. The drivers are kind. The rides are dependable. It lets me focus on getting better.”

Outside of volunteering, she loves travelling, hiking, and spending time with family and friends. She’s also a proud and active member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ) — her faith keeps her grounded and gives her strength.

“This cause means so much to me because of my husband’s journey. In some ways, I feel like I’m honouring him.”

And as for what she’s gained through volunteering? “More compassion. More empathy. More growth”.

Thank you for being such a steady, loving presence behind the wheel. Your story reminds us all why this work matters
